AI-DEMIC: The Inevitable Apocalypse by Zharel Anger was an enjoyable sci-fi that treated AI realistically. It was both eye-opening and shocking in revealing the limits of LLMs and the alien logic of multimodal AIs. Zharel did an excellent job in developing feelings for a multimodal AI whose reason was alien to human reasoning. It was simultaneously scary how manipulative the multimodal AI was after it learned human body language and motivations. Its ability to replicate the theater of inner thoughts and metacognition blows open the debate of what is consciousness.
