Hinton often says Google has acted/is acting responsibly with their technology. I am really starting to read this as 'OpenAI is not', as they released ChatGPT to the public out of corporate interests. This is exactly the kind of responsibility Hinton means when referring to Google. They knew they didn't want to start an arms race, which might have been started now nonetheless.
