This convinces me that COMPAS doesn't just need to be revised or "fixed", it needs to be discontinued. AI may have a future in the world of law. But this has completely tarnished its reliability, and ruined the lives of people. Its untested and inaccurate technology is being used too soon. If you were using machine learning to teach a bot to play chess, you wouldn't throw it up against Magnus Carlsen on its first dozen trials.
