Forget AI for a moment - it's the low technology has also made a big impact. I can do something over 99% of the people who ever lived on Earth could not do: I can turn a tap and have hot water come out of the wall or into the sink instantly. Amazing. Kings and Emperors couldn't do that.

At 76 I can remember as a kid asking an Operator to connect me (in a small town I'd just say "to daddy's office" and they might say "oh I just saw him drive past, I'll try the golf club"). Don't turn the handle too fast, it makes a bigger noise for the Operator.
