I own and operate a construction company. I have a few hundred employees. I don’t care that that academic guy says, AI is absolutely going to cut my staff in half at least before I retire. Simple example. Hanger layout, locating the hangers that get placed overhead to carry the pipe we install. That all used to be done by pipefitters. Now it’s a robot that literally drives itself around and paints dots on the floor where they go. Estimators, CAD detailers…their jobs are so close to being replaced. Automated welders already exist and have been common for a while. HVAC technicians that diagnose issues in equipment will no longer be needed. Now it’s a guy half as smart who fixes what AI tells him needs fixed. I could go on and on. Construction jobs, blue collar as Mr. Doctor Acedemic called them will absolutely be slashed.
