The only problem with the whole 'skynet' theme is that it presumes that no government would ever be sinister enough to employ robotic warfare, so that it could only happen with the birth of advanced artificial intelligence. The reality of it is that governments would be utilizing robotic warfare long before advanced AI was ever invented, proving to be far more sinister than skynet.
