Let’s say corporations get so profitable with AI that they only need 1/5 of their employee base. They could potentially be selling to a world where unemployment is a rampant 30-40%, again, because of AI. Some people at the upper echelons have so much money they can’t count it all, but they are able NOT able to consume all of the good and services made by these super lean/efficient companies. Therefore, the market retracts. More layoffs. More AI efficiencies. More wealth concentrated in the ultra-rich. Does anyone see a problem? Are we coming to the point where having skills doesn’t get you a job because there are no jobs? Is this the beginning of universal basic income? I don’t love that idea because I want to work hard and make a fair wage, which is what I hope for my kids and the next generation. That may be an old fashioned idea though. We are at an inflection point.
