While you make lots of great points I think you are looking at this through the lens of 20th century economics and politics.
We are careening towards a future where the oligarchs don’t need a huge workforce to bring them the wealth and power they crave. It’s also a future where our species’ existence is imperiled by our impact on the world around us.
Imagine you are an oligarch who craves power and wealth, and despite whatever you might say publicly, you understand that our global ecosystem is in deep trouble.
What’s your endgame? It certainly not a lot of unemployed people starving and angry. Unless you are a monster, you realize that you have to figure out someway to prop up the base standard of living. Whether that is via UBI or something else, who knows.
And then what if you are a monster? You don’t care if the masses die. You envision an earthly utopia for small population of elites that live in luxury thanks to AI and robots. The ultimate in resort living for the lucky few.
And if that’s their endgame, we are not in a fight for jobs and standard of living. We are in a fight for survival.
