Honestly what would it hurt to just give him the copyright? Like all it would do it limit others trying to use his specific generated image, and who cares? Also regardless of whatever effort or lack of it he tapped into to create this image, the image still exists because of him. How much effort does someone have to put in to cross the threshold where they can copyright something?
Also how is training an ai on existing art stealing any more than training a human using existing art?
