It's fun and all to think about consciousness with AI's. But I think right now it's really not that important relative to all the other shit, like propaganda, job loss, loneliness, the sheer amount if misinformation it'll cause, the systemic bigotry that gets trained into it, etc. Those are all way more immediate and effective to the average person, not some far off idea thay maaaaaybe we'll have actual AI in the future. We can cross that bridge when it's time but right now ain't the time.
