I'm a software engineer. It's not right for you to say that eliminating radar or not including lidar is simply due to a profit motive. Elon was right. In order to accomplish the task of full self-driving, the system *must* have understanding. Radar will never give you understanding. Lidar simply shifts the measured light outside of the visible spectrum, otherwise you already have visible light. The dots could be used to judge distance, but there are factors which can trip those up if you don't have understanding. The car simply needs to understand what it's looking at. All of the automakers which are relying on something other than a comprehensive understanding of what is going on *will not* be able to get to the finish line. It's unfortunate that people ascribe negative motives to Tesla, saying things like that they're risking people's lives as some kind of profit grab. If Tesla felt the path the successful full self driving included radar, they would not have deleted it. And again, as a software developer who understands these things reasonably well, I probably would have deleted the radar as well- and I certainly would have stayed far and clear from Lidar.
