AI is helpful if you know what you’re doing. Problems emerge when people think they can use AI to suddenly attain expert status in some new area. That being said, there is a genuine danger of the more senior and experienced employees at a company… the guys who just know how everything ought to work, but they historically delegated to other humans because they’re always too busy (and are probably mostly underwhelmed with how quickly and easily a human can understand a new complex code base and the workflows around it… some are good, most are meh… although the meh folks often do contribute to a positive culture)… those senior guys do have the ability to automate away the need for new hires, or at least, automate the tasks that are historically expected of new hires. Claude Code in a terminal is very good… it’s as competent as CS grad who’s had a few years of working in a particular code base. But way faster and cheaper. Don’t bury your head in the sand, it’s worth paying attention to.
