The stock market is also entirely speculative, it doesn't communicate how much money a company makes, it communicates how much money investors think the company can make in the future. An AI project can be a complete waste of time and money sink for a company, but as long as there are investors that think that in the future AI will make everything cheaper, the AI project will cause the stock price to go up. The stock price only tells you what investor confidence there is in the corporate world, not how good the economy is for the average person or even how profitable actually companies are.
