"because it could be awful" Given who will be calling the shots, who is in charge now and will be in charge and direct the transition, given the power AI will give those who call the shots the probability that it will be awful is a 100% at a minimum. UBI is great and all but whoever provides the UBI will have you by the balls in every way. The only way they will pay you a UBI is with Digital ID and almost certainly ID Implants. Anyone who rocks the boat will be identified and punished in ways you cant resist. What state wouldnt do everything in their power to have that be the case. AI isnt the problem its what people will do with it thats the problem.
