It's really hard to dive into the nature of consciousness in contrast to A.I without at least bringing the topic of the soul into it. As far as i'm concerned you could create a digital version of consciousness by giving A.I a fixed perspective and an ability to percieve the world around them so that they can interact with it. Whether this consciousness is sacred or a hollow imitation is down to individual belief but i think it's a mistake to think that A.I can't have consciousness.
