Clickbait. All of these "problems" have been talked about. A lot. We are car centric because mass transit sucks. Waymo is better than individual cars, not as good as transit. The good being rejected because we dream of the perfect.
Better solutions include:
Tax incentives for remote work to remove the need for transit of any kind.
Buses with transponders so they never stop for traffic lights. Fewer stops so they aren't slowing down every 100 yards, or, even better, express buses that only service every 10 to 20 stops.
Many of these are cost effective or even save money. Shutting down Waymo doesn't make any of it happen. Waymo is also exceptionally helpful for last mile transit. What if you could take two Waymos 2 miles to mass transit stops and save money taking fast mass transit between your two nearest mass transit hubs. $10 instead of $40 and only 15 minutes extra transit time on express and local busses. $15 if you want to use only the express. Improve the system, don't block it like a luddite.
