I work in material science, and it’s obvious to me AI is still a way off. The problem with statistical computing is it only thinks inside the box. The unknown and useful may well lie outside the box.
Super-intelligence will require far more than statistical modelling. It needs to be able to make its own geometric equations based off statical observations, just as humanity has done. The computational power needed for true, powerful geometric calculation based off observations is far beyond any imagining. Billions of times what we have the capability to do today. That’s why it’s far off. Because that doesn’t exist, and not only that but AI can’t help you build it, because it’s never seen it before.
