Executives at my company pulled me and a handful of other senior tech leaders in to ask us about using AI. Some wanted to go all in, some wanted nothing to do with it. I told them it needed to be viewed as a force multiplier and triage agent. You still need people who are very good at their jobs, AI's purpose is to give your best people more bandwidth so they can do more. You can't just blindly let AI do it's thing.
If AI tooling reduces my best engineers work hours on a project by 25% that means I can get my top people on more projects a year. That leads to better products and less rework. That's AI's value. It's not ready for more than that yet.
