With each passing day I'm more convinced that AGI — or even just a sufficiently advanced regular AI — is a great filter that could be the best explanation for the Fermi Paradox. We don't see any intelligent life when we look to the stars simply because all civilizations wipe themselves out by inventing misaligned AI.
