Something being missed here is the constraints in the system that we live in called Earth.
Consider the statement: "we'll all be picking fruit". A retort would be: No, AI will build robots and pick the fruit for us. But will it? No, because it won't be cost effective to have robot fruit pickers for the same reason we haven't done it ourselves. Not only is there a lack of technology available (e.g. batteries, power efficient means etc) but there's a constraint of rare earth materials. This is just for one farm... now scale the complexity... now scale the problem to other industries where AI can automate it all.
Frankly, until we are able to strip mine the solar system, we are still on a go-slow. AI will certainly cause massive social upheaval but the idea that there will be little or no work is unlikely. It will be the same as it was in the other technological revolutions - very disruptive to individuals without skills and mass investment will be required to support societies.
