Really interesting discussion, but I think there are a couple of important points missing. First Sam Altman isn’t a neutral party, he has massive financial interest in AI expanding as widely and deeply as possible. That doesn’t invalidate his ideas, but it’s important context. He directly benefits from the system he’s promoting.
With that in mind, I believe job creators will have enormous benefits as he says but most people aren’t job creators. They don’t own companies or capital, they work for others. For example only around 10% of people are self-employed in the US. So while AI might be great job creators (replacing employees, reducing costs), it risks eliminating the income source for the vast majority who rely on being hired.
Access to AI tools isn’t enough if it destroys the structure that supports most people’s livelihoods. Without real structural change, this shift could concentrate wealth and power even further.
