Any talk of sentience is ludicrous. I can unzip a terabyte of LLM to install on my workstation built with transistors, run it, converse with it, truly foolishly fall in love with it, because my computer is now a living thing, or the state of all the logic gates is collectively alive (wondering what standby mode is supposed to mean), or hey maybe it's some metaphysical quantum field ghost in the machine that came from twistor space like a flock of starlings and lit on the tree when I booted up. Will AGI also be much less sentient than the village idiot? These stories about AI resisting being switched off etc are laughable considering that AI is trained on a mass of human discourse that will embody such thoughts, literature, branches, decisions..AI is just a monstrous mirror of pseudorandom access to this corpus.
