I’m pretty confident it’ll be used to the detriment of society, because it already is and there doesn’t appear to be any movement to prevent it. Making fake videos isn’t a positive thing for society. Making useless customer service bots that default to “have you tried looking at our web site” and eliminating customer service that could actually help customers is not a positive development. Having LLMs write documents where they just flat out make up “facts” in a way that appears reasonable at first glance isn’t a positive development. But if they can get away with it, it can save business money and that appears to be the only factor that’s deciding anything.
