Saw this coming. I've watched suits use every tech fad they see in the media to justify dumping their employees since I got into the industry in '96. But frankly, if you just take a look at how many NPCs in the streets got taught to think "AI" meant self aware, omnipotent, Cyberdyne Systems boogieman - so much so that they act like the world doesn't actually exist that isn't "AI" anymore, it's easy to see how this happens. People beginning mystified by it. Harder to get why people never learn from such tech worship and stop falling for it.
