Yeah... I work in ML, and I've been on the "AI existential threat is negligible enough to disregard right now? side of the debate since I started... until now. Max and Yoshua made many very good points against which there were no legitimate counter-arguments made. Yann and Melanie did their side a major disservice here; I think I would actually be pushed *away* from the "negligible threat" side just by listening to them, even if Max and Yoshua were totally absent. Amazing debate, great job by Bengio and Tegmark. They're clearly thinking about this issue in several tiers of rigour above Mitchell and LeCun.
Edit: I've been trying very hard to not say this to myself, but after watching another 20 minutes of this debate, I'm finding Melanie Mitchell legitimately painful to listen to. I mean no offence in general, but I don't think she was well suited nor prepared for this type of debate.
