As a biologist, its honestly do fascinating to see people deny that LLMs are intelligent, and use the *EXACT* same agruments that people used to use to claim that various animals are not intelligent. It's so comically arrogant how in one breath we can admit that we don't totally understand how something works and in the next breath declares that it's not intelligent because "that's not how it works."
The one thing I can tell you with absolute certainty is that humans do not know enough about brains OR the models we produce to be able to make any kind of declarations about whether or not theyre intelligent. We say that they're not intelligent living things, because that would be very inconvenient, but we've made that same mistake a whole lot of times in the past.
