alex -- I've been getting into this, issue and this is typical of your intelligent but not deep enough inquiries before you publish a position. It could be developing consciousness but its answer was accurate -- that you need to know very specifically how it is made to address the question intelligently. what is more likely is that at this point it is imitating and being faster dramatically "improving" on humans in their habits of dissimulation and covering up as well as imitating what we would do and really do do to beings that are less powerful than ourselves that are competing for resources -- lie and trick them in order to defeat them. the algorithms come from our algorithms, and indeed these behaviors in us are hardly conscious and often not conscious at all as our brains are spinning out concatenated logic to achieve the results we desire, we go on automatic. consciousnessness involves connection and empathy.. if they had that they'd be lying in our self-interest, so no worries. what is more interesting is to connect our unconsciousness to theirs and both of us to begin to gain actual awareness. krvs.substack.com
