Cool story, bro. The problem is with your first assumption. There's no reason to believe that sophisticated chatbots, otherwise known as LLMs will ever be smarter than all of us combined. See the Chinese Room for more info. AI broadly speaking one day might. But LLMs will most certainly not. No, the real problem with it today is actually much dumber than that. The means of production owner class have bought hook, line and sinker into the delusion that LLMs will one day magically transform into AGI, because reasons. That is the crux of why people get laid off today. Because of a misguided bet on the market. I have to remind people what LLM stands for all the time. Large Language Model. It cannot be general by definition. All it is, is a sophisticated Markov's Chain. I don't even have to touch the myriad of other issues with LLMs. Such as the lack of identity function making them inherently non-deterministic. That means that for the same inputs you'll get different non-cached outputs, depending on the phase of the Moon and the relative positions of celestial bodies. At least if you get fired due to AI adoption you can take the small solace in the absurdity of the situation.
