There are a number of problems with this scenario: 1. Unless the US is completely restructured, public outcry will replace politicians not listening at the 25% unemployment mark - remember Hoover? 2. Hunger fuels terrorism and extreme acts. Once families go hungry, all bets are off. Civil unrest is a breading ground for crazy, extreme systems. You can't ignore large city blocks going up in flames. 3. The "AI Paradox" is not addressed. The AI economy would be limited. There won't be a huge need to sell goods or services to AI. Instead, the stock market will collapse once unemployment hits 25%. 4. Neighbors won't ignore Alice - at 25% unemployment, many of her neighbors would also be impacted too. 5. Nothing is stopping Alice from starting her own AI firm - introducing competition. Anyone with any business knowledge could do the same. Legacy run companies would quickly fail - as the board of several people is too many as a single-person could do the same work. 6. All this ignores the more concerning aspects of AI - human extinction. This video assumes AI will remain friendly with humans. It is possible that AI could delete humanity simply to gain access energy resources used by humans. 7. I realize the use of robots is a visual aid to represent AI, but in reality, if AI chips are put into robots, unemployment won't be 25% - it will be closer to 90% as even trades won't be safe. 8. There is a growing anti-AI sentiment already. I know in the writing space, authors accused of using AI are being blacklisted and canceled. This will grow and include any companies mostly driven by AI. AI backlash is real. 9. Government is funded by tax revenue from income, real estate, and sales of goods. If a lot of people are unemployed, there will be massive losses in tax revenue. I do think UBI is unlikely in the near-term as it comes down to whom to tax to raise the money for the system. Unless you somehow nationalize the combined output of AI, I don't see it happening. As a software engineer, I've been using AI for about a year. I'm not overly concerned unless there is a completely new technology that replaces how LLMs work.
