Angel Engine does not deserve any appreciation. If the user has an extensive backlog of genAI bubonic slop, it is extremely likely that even the concept, story and dialogues are AI generated. If a person can't express themselves visually but can write and has an intriguing story, that in itself categorically does not give them the right to use genAI to create visuals. It's akin to saying that if a person has an intriguing idea for a business they should be handed a Masters in business management automatically.
You touched on all the major and points, but I want to ad something else: up until genAI became a thing, every piece of media we experienced was the result of a person or a team's skill and sensibility. Even if audiences at large weren't consciously thinking about it, they knew that what they were watching, looking at or listening to was the direct result of another person's sensibility pushed through their skill and craft.
GenAI erases that and places the sole importance of any media on the "idea". Ideas are a dime a dozen and by themselves are worthless until they are materialised through all the choices made by the person or team, from micro to macro.
That is where the value is at.
That is what we react to and treasure.
We celebrate the result because of what it stands for.
A quick story: I'm a filmmaker/photographer and some months ago, Instagram's explore page displayed a thumbnail of a photo that caught my eye - a street photograph. I opened and WOW! Everything was pitch perfect; light, shadow, colour, perfect composition and framing, snapped at the exact perfect moment. Any a-list photographer would turn green with envy for not having this on their portfolio. I went to this user's profile and, holy shit - even more amazing work. "Who the hell is this guy? This work is incredible!" I thought to myself. Stellar shot after stellar shot. I kept on scrolling through his feed until the images changed to black and white; but not just that, the drop in craft also plummeted, and by plummeted I mean that these images were amateurish at best; no sense of timing, no sense of composition, awful framing. Beginners stuff. "This is probably their very early work", I thought as I opened one of those photos. But no, the uploads were as recent as his fantastic work. I went back to the amazing posts and looked at the hashtags: AI generated. All those amazing "shots" were AI.
When this dude faced the world with a camera, his eyes and his brain - what photography is all about - he couldn't produce a passable photo to save his life, but hiding behind AI, he could output A-level stuff, claim it as his work and feel a misplaced sense of glory and accomplishment.
This is Automated Incompetence.
If we are at home or on a pub watching a sports match - soccer, basketball, football, baseball, boxing, whatever - and at the end it is revealed that it was all AI, would we feel the experience to be as rewarding and valuable as watching a real match?
Is there any point to watching synthetic players face off synthetic players, even if it was all prompted by someone?
If you inexplicably say "yes", then there's nothing else to discuss.
If you say "no", then the same goes for every other genAI output.
