It's a plausible scenario but likewise will depend on each individual society. I don't think people will be so passive and 'oh well' when mass layoffs begin to happen, there will be revolutions and societies that reject all out AI. The resource examples all showed 'bad' examples but there are countries like Norway and to some extent Mexico that don't suffer from this. There will be a lot of whipsaw until the ship rights itself however.
