I'm a homeschool mom. This is what many of us do. Core curriculum takes about 2 hours per day. Spend time in God's Weird and let moral and spiritual development be the first and foremost pursuit. It must be foundational to all other academics. Spend plenty of time in nature. We love birdwatching here in SWFL where our backyard and neighborhood are quite rural and woodsy. Definitely spend time letting your child just fully dig in to the areas they have a natural affinity to. They won't need a gap year to find themselves. At graduation they will know themselves and know well what they wish to pursue. They will have been discovering this since early childhood. Something that typical mainstream schooling doesn't allow time for.
