I believe Sir Penrose is right, consciousness is fundamentally non-computational.
No matter how much processing power you add, AI will never be conscious—because its foundation is purely software.
Consciousness, in my view, can only emerge from nature, specifically from biological life. To be conscious is to be alive.
This leads me to think that the universe itself might be alive, and therefore conscious. How could all life within the universe exist inside something that is itself dead? That seems incoherent. Instead, I suggest that even atoms possess a rudimentary form of awareness as QM implies—some form of consciousness, not in the human sense, but as a basic, intrinsic feature of reality.
