As a software engineer I just want to say, AI hasn’t replaced our jobs. It’s made parts of them faster.
It’s very good at rote stuff, refactoring, and brainstorming. But it still struggles with ambiguity, trade-offs, system design, and complex decisions.
What’s happening right now feels more like a shift in the skill floor than mass replacement. Juniors probably need to learn more, and some purely repetitive roles may shrink, but that’s far from saying all jobs are gone.
Historically, when technology gets better, we don’t fire all the engineers, we build more ambitious systems. If there’s going to be an AI revolution, it will require breakthroughs fundamentally different from today’s models, not just bigger versions of the same thing, and we don’t know how long that will take.
