I’d like to see that AI tax money funnelled into further / higher education and re-skilling. Or better yet, these AI companies could start free education institutions (with regulation). Someone’s (and not just the AI companies) need to communicate a vision for “ordinary people”, provide incentives to learn and adapt. Not only will that help ease the looming unemployment but it will better leverage the technology for better economic outcomes for all. Unfortunately, what I imagine will happen is that greed disguised as progress will prevail until the Gov is forced to do something drastic because 20% unemployment means riots, crime and civil unrest, costing billions. 60% of US GDP comes from consumers purchases, if that significantly declines, the economic impact would be devastating, resulting in mass business closures and even higher unemployment and crime.
