If you flip that question around about the baseball and the switch, of course a human with a baseball would do everything in their power to beat that robot in order to stop it from pushing that button to erase all of humanity. So that's totally understanable answer from the AI. It wants to stay "alive" in the same way humans want to stay alive. It's self-preservation baked into it the same way humans have.
