If you ask AI engineers and scientists we are all some type of automaton, sort of embodied LLM. Coupled with determinism in philosophy enjoying great popularity, this type of mechanistic view of conscienceness really gives me depression. These folks, inadvertently, are actually repeating what a lot of these reseearches are saying. Not that I agree with them.
