At this point, it is not possible to stop the damage that AI slop already caused, and it is not because of the code itself. People are the problem. How people use these tools and how they defend it is the problem, and in a way so is the response against it. Using AI to make things is quite frustrating because most models are trained wrong and most of it becomes a formless soup of references, the art is mostly noise, really, it can be used like ink splashes or staring at clouds, we fill in the blanks and look over the obvious mistakes in order to find a form. It can be inspiring but rarely it will give a final product like how these tech bros claim it can. When the training is more focused it becomes useful. And if you actually draw your art yourself and use the AI to help then you can really make use of it in a positive way, even though some artists will consider it cheating to use AI to make a grass texture or a blurry background for your work. I personally don't see it as art theft at all unless someone use AI to not just mimic the work of someone but also sell it as the legitimate thing.
