Well, the silver lining is that LLM technology is actually extremely expensive and is getting more expensive as they refine it and expand the datasets.
The reason it seems cheap now is because everything is heavily subsidised by venture capital (and more recently, certain gov-ts). LLM industry had not made a penny of net profit, and is trending further into red.
That’s not really sustainable, and the tech seems to be largely a dead end, with little room for fundamental transformation of the functions.
