I will admit, I've always found Generative Imaging Programs (herefor called GIPs) (I refuse to call them AI, the only AI I'll call AI are the ones that can actually talk to me (IE: Hal9000, GLaDOs, Ect)) to be a fascinating thing, just from a computer science perspective. And honestly, when they remained small scale, just a few people in an office messing around with computers, not making any money off of it, just seeing what they can do? I think that's when it *Could*, have been called art. Back in the WAY early days of it. That shit was weird, and wonkey, but it wasn't going for realism or the styles that modern GIPs go for.
And yes, the argument could be made (And I would in some ways agree with it) that they're doing the same thing now. And yeah, I agree with that 100%, but back then? Eh. It didn't really matter. and honestly, my main gripe with GIP Companies, is what I feel most artists' base issue is. Money and Copyright. (and please, feel free to disagree! I'd love to hear an artist's opinion on this!) I don't think we'd see *as* much backlash from the Artistic Community if these GIP Companies were actually, paying for the work they stole. Even if it was a monthly licensing fee.
And honestly, if you ever find any of your art stolen by one of these companies? I'd encourage you to find a bunch of similar artists, and start work on a class action. Force these companies to work with you. The poisoning is a good start I'll say. But I'll admit, I'm not entirely confident how it will work long term. but, we'll see. and I hope that the Poisonings are a good thing in the long term.
