I am one of three main programmers for a Java based Selenium framework that many other projects consume at a large Medical company. What will happen is our framework will not go away - we will be tasked with porting it to interact with a given AI system and then the projects built upon the old version we will update to use the AI Framework where we will simply feed it test cases and it will output the cucumber based selenium tests that we will then just set a scheduler to and monitor results. It will easily take years to accomplish this and me and my two teammates are the only ones across the entire company (which includes other companies this one owns) who are ably suited to handle this. From there - we will also be training people in the handling of this now made super easy monitoring of tests and how to fix failures. Even should we get replaced - many other companies will need this improvement if they even have a fully qualified test framework to start so like Dave says my job will become a Selenium AI Test Engineer or something similar.
