Taylor Lorenz never misses! This is such an important conversation to be having with people and I love the way it's articulated here. A lot of people are placing a huge bet on AI sentience while experts in neuroscience are saying that LLMs are completely wrong for sentience emerging to begin with. I know we are pointing at everything lately and calling it a distraction tactic, but this is definitely one to assume this kind of a future is right around the corner. Will it never happen? I'm not certain about that. But it won't under these conditions.
