Amazing, yet fairly terrifying. However, I have to disagree with Dr. Hinton on one of his final assertions (because I have about 1/2 his IQ so, why not?). He attempted to assert that a chatbot can speak of experiences in the same way that we do, therefore this is an indication of conscious experience. The Daniel Dennett opinion on consciousness (a la his book Consciousness Explained) which he sites just does not fit with experience (at least my experience) and the notion that a chatbot has a "subjective experience" because it expresses a recognition about the nature and cause of a forced misperception does not at all mean that there is anything that it is like to be a chatbot (as Thomas Nagel might assert). As brilliant as he is, I am not buying that what Dr. Hinton is talking insofar as a claim that machine perception represents true consciousness. Perhaps Dr. Hinton is a philosophical zombie, as must be anyone with this opinion. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
