I agree on most what is said in this interview, but on the matter of consciousness and feelings I think he cuts some corners. He doesn’t adres the importance of the felt experience of feelings in the body. And the felt sense of self that most biological beings seem
to have. He doesn’t discus how subjective experience comes into existence. Only that consciousness is an emergent phenomena. I understand this man is a hardcore materialist (like he said himself), but to say that “people have a wrong idea about consciousness” and therefore implying that he has the “right” idea, without defining consciousness or going into the subtleness of this phenomenon is for me a long stretch. It would be interesting to ask a scientist specialist on consciousness its take on this matter. It might be an important step for making AI “love” us.
