Aspiring software engineer student here! On one hand, it's impressive seeing how far technology has come to the point non-sentient machines that do billions of math operations per second can somehow make images that resemble human art.
However, that shouldn't be an excuse to commit unethical acts, like essentially steal from hundreds of thousands of artists. It's even more scummy for people to pretend that AI "art" is just as good, if not even better, than human-made art. As a programmer, I find it fascinating how well people can create these colorful and meaningful pictures from an empty white canvas, and you have my respect for that.
I'm pretty optimistic about AI, and unlike NFTs, I do see real value making them worth to keep around and evolve, but organizations and governments should put laws and regulations in place to use Generative AI in an ethical way. Of course, that's an idealistic world, but I digress...
