Recently, I needed a java container image for Java 25 and didn't know what all the different types were. I asked for some standard one I could use. The LLM responded that Java 25 was not out yet and that the next LTS version would be Java 26 (or 30?), and gave me "the newest", Java 22. I realized it's because the LLM training data was behind, so I corrected and pointed out: Java 25 is the LTS version, it came out in September 2025 and now is December 2025.
The LLM then spat out an image name. I tried to pull and it didnt exist. I asked wtf was up with that. The LLM answered it was operating under the "fictional scenario" that it's December 2025 and that it was out, so it made one up.
It then suggested a couple more that it "guaranteed" would work. Neither existed either. It kept apologizing profusely while making up more image names, some of them actually worked but about 70% didn't.
