Name one species that humans don't treat as either a pet, slave, or resource. Our best hope if we ever create an intelligence that dwarfs ours is to be their favorite puppy. Even with that said, a lot of weird stuff has to happen for an AI to want a pet. It's far far more likely it wants to use us in some capacity to meet its goals.
