In 100% of these cases, the human behind the wheel was relying on autopilot to keep them safe when it's really the driver that should pay attention despite autonomous software driving for them. Ford also offers self-driving mode however the vehicle constantly reminds you to keep your hands on the wheel, if not the driving mode disables, the car slows down forcing the driver to take over. An experienced AI will eventually surpass human driving however we are not there yet, and humans still need to pay attention!
