As a disabled person, I don’t really see how generative AI makes art easier for me - it certainly doesn’t make it more fun! Sure, it can be hard to do art sometimes but the reason art brings me joy isn’t having the product at the end, it’s the process - and making AI art skips that process.
I will say that as someone who has some cognitive difficulties and can struggle with reading, the kind of text-based AI that you can use to summarise large swathes of text in simple concise language can be helpful for me (though I’d still prefer it not to be trained unethically). To be honest, I feel like the people that are creating these AI tools don’t actually care about disabled artists. If they did, they would be finding ways to automate the processes in art that aren’t fun, to allow us to work smarter not harder, rather than skipping the parts of making art that actually bring people joy and are better with a human touch.
