I don't understand exactly why the software being unable to recognize black women less is that much of an issue in terms of the police state.
Since those in power are sure to misuse this software to identify political dissidents, wouldn't the fact that it's not accurate 100% of the time for all people be a good thing? Especially when it struggles to identify members of disenfranchised groups more.
I get why it's indicative of the biases of the developers and hinders its use for less villainous tools like, facial recognition to open your screen.
But in the wider context of this video, where facial recognition software being misused is shown to be a very real threat, aren't its blindspots kind of a good thing?
I could be missing something though 😅
